We are looking for a Part Time Molecular Technologist to join our team in New Orleans, LA.

Medical Technologists at Stone are responsible for performing technical and scientific processes and procedures in a high complexity genetic testing clinical laboratory. This position involves sequencing analysis applied to molecular technology and will require the technologist to master multiple software systems for instruments.

Responsibilities including, but not limited to:

  • Performs routine high-complexity testing in molecular, quality control, calibration, maintenance and proficiency testing in accordance with current laboratory procedures
  • Receive and record delivery of patient samples
  • Prepare specimens for the downstream processes performed in other areas of the lab
  • Perform manual and automated molecular biology protocols
  • Review results, QC and sign off on lab results
  • Informs senior personnel of any problem or issue that affects the reporting of patient results
  • Document any problems, issues or information that may be necessary for other testing personnel to be aware
  • Assists with coordination of routine laboratory tasks including ordering of supplies, restocking shelves, and data entry and laboratory inventory
  • Assists with the maintenance of laboratory equipment, including the sequencers, instruments, and the generator
  • Assists with ensuring that the laboratory facility and equipment remain in good working order
  • Monitor QA/QC records and ensure inspection readiness at all times
  • Adhere to and ensure laboratory staff are adhering to OSHA, CLIA, HIPAA, and other safety practices
  • Assist with testing, implementation, and validation of new procedures and instrumentation
  • Document any problems, issues or information that may be necessary for other testing personnel to be aware
  • Take corrective action if Quality Control results are not within acceptable limits. Document all corrective actions taken as indicated in established laboratory procedures.
  • Training and competency assessment of testing personnel as needed
  • Remains competent in all assigned stations
  • Strong independent problem solving skills
  • Adhere to Department Specific Safety Guidelines

Requirements include:

  • PCR and qPCR experience
  • Operation of liquid handling systems
  • Attention to detail
  • Computer skills: Google Suite, Microsoft Office, etc.
  • MT Board Certification Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Molecular Biology, or related field
  • MT licensure in the State of Florida
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours
  • Must be able to lift 10-20 lbs
